Yesterday was one of THOSE days....I think you know the type I'm talking about. Well I needed something to just take my stress from the day down a FEW notches.
I threw Stress Away and Lavender and Bergamot together in my diffusers AROUND the whole house and you guys, they are soooo relaxing. Like, "sitting on the couch, chilling without a care in the world" kinda RELAXED. You totally don't have to use Bergamot but it's inexpensive and it really makes it worth it. Bergamot smells a-ma-zing! It’s one of my favorites!!
Chill Out - 3 drops Stress Away & 2 drops Lavender - Amplify & add 3 drops Bergamot
Here are a few other of my favorite relaxing diffuser combos. So during or after a hard day...just put these bad boys in the diffuser and kick your feet up!!
SPA - 3 drops each of Purification & Lavender
Earthy Calm - 2 drops each of Frankincense & Copaiba
Wind Down- 4 drops Peace & Calming and 3 drops Lavender
Do you know how to tell that it is fall? You might say it is the cool, crisp change in the air or the fact that your husband has pulled out his favorite football tailgate equipment, or maybe even in your state the leaves are starting to change. But nope. It's the fact that everyone has put out their pumpkin pie spice flavored everything! But you know what most of those pumpkin pie spice scented, flavored, fragrant things have in common? Synthetic processed chemicals. Um. No thank you. I prefer to do things more natural and that includes my pumpkin pie spice everything. We use this blend of pure essential oils in everything from our homemade room sprays to our made from scratch pumpkin pie. Do you have diffuser? Then add a few drops of this blend and not only will your house smell like a warm pumpkin pie hug but you are also going to reap the benefits from the essential oils contained in this blend. We also just posted a healthy protein shake recipe here on the blog that you could use a few drops of this blend in place of the Thieves essential oil.
Pumpkin Pie Spice essential oil blend:
20 drops Cinnamon Bark
15 drops Clove
15 drops Nutmeg
10 drops Ginger
10 drops Orange
5 drops Cardamom
Combine all oils in a 10mL glass bottle. Gently mix oils before each use. Use 4-5 drops in a diffuser for a warm fresh baked pumpkin pie aroma and also enjoy the therapeutic benefits from these Young Living oils. Use Young Living Vitality essential oils for this blend and use 1-2 drops in your favorite recipe that calls for pumpkin pie spice! Let’s start out by taking a look at why diffusing can make such a strong impact on our well-being. Of the five senses, our sense of smell is the only sense directly connected to our limbic system. Why is that important? Because the limbic system handles your breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, memories, stress level, hormone balance, and more!
Let’s discuss what actually happens when you breathe in an essential oil. First, the molecules in that oils attaches to the olfactory nerves and an electrical impulse is sent to the limbic system (this happens in milliseconds...and the reason why diffusing is the fastest way to get an EO into the body). The limbic system then responds and can regulate the body with physiological and psychological responses! How cool is that?!
Lets dive into the “Limbic Pathway” a little more. This is the central part of the brain where emotions are stored. One of those areas is the amygdala, which plays a major role in storing and releasing emotional trauma. Get this! The ONLY way to stimulate the amygdala is with fragrance through the sense of SMELL!
The thalamus is also in the limbic system and controls our vision, touch, hearing, and sleeping and wakefulness. Many people have had AMAZING results using and diffusing oils for these functions, sleeping and wakefulness in particular!
The hypothalamus The hypothalamus is a section of the brain responsible for the production of many of the body’s essential hormones, chemical substances that help control different cells and organs. It controls functions such as temperature regulation, thirst, hunger, sleep, mood, sex drive, and the release of other hormones within the body. This area of the brain houses the pituitary gland and other glands in the body. You guessed it! We have oils for all of THAT!
The hippocampus The hippocampus is involved in the storage of long-term memory, which includes all past knowledge and experiences as well as spacial reasoning.
Last but not least, we have the pituitary gland. Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland help control: growth, blood pressure, certain functions of the sex organs, thyroid glands and metabolism as well as some aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, water/salt concentration and the kidneys, temperature regulation and pain relief.
Now you can fully appreciate why diffusing is so awesome! Essential oils are SAFE enough and small enough to cross the blood brain barrier and have an effect on the brain. Isn’t that incredible?!?
Another awesome fact about diffusing essential oils is, it is the safest option for methods of use (topical and internal being the other modalities).
Before I learned about essential oils, I was a hardcore, jump on that sale and stock up candle burner. Why? Because I loved the way they smelled and made my house feel. But the more I learned about candles (and wall plug-ins, and fragrance sprays...) the more I realized that I didn't want them around my family.
Why is diffusing essential oils better than just burning some great smelling candles?? I mean, since we’re smelling both of them, they could both have the same amazing effects, right? Nope.
