I should call these next gazillion recipes the “101 days of Fall!” I am kidding. There will only be 99 pumpkin spice recipes. Lol. But seriously, I was so super excited to get my Young Living Essentials Rewards order this month because I added Vitality oils I need for a “pumpkin pie spice” blend! But that is a whole other thing we need to talk about!
I wanted to share with you a smoothie recipe I made this week. It was so awesome tasting! As I am typing this recipe, I am wanting it so badly! I may have to take a break and go make one! Even my boys loved this smoothie.
Did you know that pumpkin is such a good food choice for you? I didn’t know until I started looking in to it some more and was excited about what I found. Consuming one cup of cooked, canned pumpkin would provide well over 100% of your daily needs for vitamin A, 20% of the daily value for vitamin C, 10% or more for vitamin E, riboflavin, potassium, copper and manganese at least 5% for thiamin, B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, niacin, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. Not to mention it is packed with the antioxidant beta-carotene. Want to talk about preventative medicine! Look up all the things that are affected by beta-carotene and vitamin A (cancer defense, heart health, delay aging (what?!). It and the avocado or banana are also packed full of fiber and potassium! Good for heart health, fertility and eye sight! Holy cow!
The coconut oil is totally optional and while it does add more fat and calories it does have its benefits too. It can give a great boost to your metabolism in the morning which is always a good thing. Know what else it can do? Coconut oil contains so many things that your body benefit from. Here is a short list of somethings I found in my own research that can be supported by consuming coconut oil: metabolism, muscle building, appetite suppressant, promotes heart health, memory function, healthy digestion, balance hormones. So if you don't mind the extra calories you can see that there are a lot of great reasons to include it!
The Young Living Pure Protein Complete contains 5 different proteins and a full range of amino acids. Protein is a building block for most of your body so don’t skimp on that! It is also great at making you feel more full longer. Amino acids have multiple benefits for your body besides just being the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids also benefit your immune system and your nervous system!
Young Living's Thieves Vitality Essential Oil is the perfect way to add a little bit of the warm, spicy flavor that we all love in pumpkin pie. It is a special blend that contains Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary essential oils that help support overall wellness and a healthy immune system. Perfect for this season when we could use some strong immune systems!
Okay so go make this like now! See just how easy it is to make by checking out our recipe videos here!
PUMPKIN PIE SMOOTHIE
3/4 cup pumpkin purée
1/4 of a ripe avocado or 1/2 banana
1/2-1 cup of cashew, coconut or almond milk
1 tsp raw honey or organic maple syrup
1 TBS coconut oil (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon or 1 drop of Cinnamon Vitality Essential Oil
1 -2 drops Thieves Vitality Essential Oil (option 1-2 drops "pumpkin pie spice" blend)
1-2 scoops Young Living Pure Protein Complete Vanilla Spice
Add pumpkin, avocado, milk, oil, cinnamon and honey to blender and mix completely. Use more or less milk to suit your consistency tastes. Stir in essential oil. I add my protein powder at the end because I find if I add it sooner and mix to much it becomes really whipped up and fluffy and I don’t like fluffy smoothies. Pour into glass and enjoy!
Pumpkin just screams fall but I am curious what is your favorite fall treat?

Let’s start out by taking a look at why diffusing can make such a strong impact on our well-being. Of the five senses, our sense of smell is the only sense directly connected to our limbic system. Why is that important? Because the limbic system handles your breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, memories, stress level, hormone balance, and more!
Let’s discuss what actually happens when you breathe in an essential oil. First, the molecules in that oils attaches to the olfactory nerves and an electrical impulse is sent to the limbic system (this happens in milliseconds...and the reason why diffusing is the fastest way to get an EO into the body). The limbic system then responds and can regulate the body with physiological and psychological responses! How cool is that?!
Lets dive into the “Limbic Pathway” a little more. This is the central part of the brain where emotions are stored. One of those areas is the amygdala, which plays a major role in storing and releasing emotional trauma. Get this! The ONLY way to stimulate the amygdala is with fragrance through the sense of SMELL!
The thalamus is also in the limbic system and controls our vision, touch, hearing, and sleeping and wakefulness. Many people have had AMAZING results using and diffusing oils for these functions, sleeping and wakefulness in particular!
The hypothalamus The hypothalamus is a section of the brain responsible for the production of many of the body’s essential hormones, chemical substances that help control different cells and organs. It controls functions such as temperature regulation, thirst, hunger, sleep, mood, sex drive, and the release of other hormones within the body. This area of the brain houses the pituitary gland and other glands in the body. You guessed it! We have oils for all of THAT!
The hippocampus The hippocampus is involved in the storage of long-term memory, which includes all past knowledge and experiences as well as spacial reasoning.
Last but not least, we have the pituitary gland. Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland help control: growth, blood pressure, certain functions of the sex organs, thyroid glands and metabolism as well as some aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, water/salt concentration and the kidneys, temperature regulation and pain relief.
Now you can fully appreciate why diffusing is so awesome! Essential oils are SAFE enough and small enough to cross the blood brain barrier and have an effect on the brain. Isn’t that incredible?!?
Another awesome fact about diffusing essential oils is, it is the safest option for methods of use (topical and internal being the other modalities).
Before I learned about essential oils, I was a hardcore, jump on that sale and stock up candle burner. Why? Because I loved the way they smelled and made my house feel. But the more I learned about candles (and wall plug-ins, and fragrance sprays...) the more I realized that I didn't want them around my family.
Why is diffusing essential oils better than just burning some great smelling candles?? I mean, since we’re smelling both of them, they could both have the same amazing effects, right? Nope.
So here's what I've learned through my research that made me look at candles in a whole new light. Let’s match both options up in a in a Diffusing Essential Oils vs Candle Burning FACE-OFF to see the difference...
First up, Candles:
Okay, so...I don’t know about you, but that info kinda turned me off from my love of candles. And I LOVED burning candles. Am I doomed to have a stinky, stale smelling house if I don’t want to bring all of those things into my home??? Say it ain’t so!!
So, let’s see how diffusing matches up.
Diffusing YL Essential Oils:
I don’t know about you, but I saw a CLEAR winner in that match-up and there’s no question what I want my family breathing in our home.
