Anyone else excited for summer time? I love the taste and laid back attitude of summer for sure! We just got done celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the great thing about that holiday for us is the food and drinks! So over the next few days we are going to get you in the summer time mood by sharing some of those recipes that you can start enjoying now and all through the summer with friends or just a relaxing day of your own on your porch or by the pool!
Let's start with one of my favorite summer drinks, shall we? Now this recipe is written for me to just enjoy a glass on my own when ever I get the hankering for a margarita but you could certainly multiply it to fit a pitcher and share amongst friends!
I tend to stay away from the pre-made margarita mixes that are loaded with artificial colors and lots of sugars and things I can't even begin to pronounce. All you need instead is some good citrus fruits, a natural sweetener (which I may even try it without), quality Tequila, and a couple of Young Living Vitality essential oils,
We of course are only going to recommend that you use Young Living's Vitality essential oils because of the proliferation of adulterated and synthetic essential oils in the market these days. With Young Living's Seed-to-Seal promise I know that when I use the Vitality essential oils in my food and drinks that I am using the highest quality and 100% pure essential oils. This is so important when it comes to ingesting essential oils as wellness supplements or for amazing flavor in your favorite recipes. You can read more about the Seed to Seal promise here or check out the source on Young Living's own Seed to Seal website.
So who is ready for margarita time? I mean it is 5 O'Clock somewhere, right?
After reading what was in some of the store bought containers of Margarita salt, I now make my own. It's so easy to make your own. I just take coarse ground sea salt (or you can use Kosher Salt) and add it to a glass ramekin with a lid. I add 5 drops of Lime Vitality, put the lid on and shake, shake, your booty...sorry about that. Just getting in the mood! I think next time I am going to try a little bit of citric acid to give a little sweet tartness to the rimmed salt! I have a lot of that around from my DIY bath bombs!
After I have my rim salt I am going to let it sit and the flavor saturate it and start to mix up my drink. The best part!
The recipe below is for a single serving but can easily be multiplied to fill a blender or pitcher for friends. It's okay to drink one alone though on your back porch on a sunny day. I am, so let's just say it is, okay? Thanks. Lol
1 oz fresh squeezed Orange Juice
2.5 oz fresh squeezed Lime Juice
1.5 oz silver tequila
5 drops Lime Vitality essential oil
2 drops Orange Vitality essential oil
1 tsp Golden Agave (or similar light colored sweetner)
Fresh sliced lime
Lime Rim Salt
Add juice and tequila to shaker. In a spoon add the essential oil to the agave, stir into the shaker and then shake well. Take a lime wedge and rub around the rim of an empty glass. Take the rim salt and place in a shallow dish and roll the limed glass rim in the salt. Add ice to the glass and pour your drink mix from the shaker over the glass. Add a slice of lime to the rim of the glass.
Now sit back and enjoy!
I want to share with you this fun recipe called Solid Perfume which has really been a hit in our community of oilers!
I've heard it said that synthetic perfume has become the new second hand smoke in America! How many times have you gotten a headache or “tasted” someone’s perfume in the air just because we were in the same area as them?
A rose may be a rose,” reports EWG. “But that rose-like fragrance in your perfume may be something else entirely, concocted from any number of the fragrance industry’s 3,100 stock chemical ingredient, the blend of which is almost always kept hidden from the consumer.” – Scientific American
So, let’s make our own perfume! You can use your pure grade oils from Young Living to make a diluted roller bottle OR make solid perfume! Since it’s solid, it won’t leak and it’s an easy but thoughtful gift for anyone!
...is a little help around the house. Am I right?! While I realize a vacuum is not a super romantic gift, it's funny how as you get a little older, you really just want gifts that will make your life easier.
And what does that look like in our home these days? Getting ACTUAL HELP with the chores! And that includes having our kids help. There's something to be said about having your kids participate in the household chores, learning that it takes work to maintain a clean, healthy home and being part of the family TEAM. I want my kids to know that they're an important part of our family, and that means they share in the chores. At every age and stage, that has looked a little different in our home. When they're toddlers, you teach them to dress themselves and put their toys away. When they're a little older, they learn to brush their teeth and make their bed. I didn't include them in the house cleaning before because I didn't really want them touching the cleaning supplies. I didn't want them inhaling the fumes. Heck, I didn't even want to!
Then this little charmer walked into my life a little over a year ago. This bottle of magic is all-natural, smells like cinnamon amazingness and has the power of Thieves Essential Oil, which translates to IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT while I breath it in and clean!
Now, I happily hand over the spray bottle of Thieves Cleaner (it only takes a capful in 16oz of distilled water!) and have the kids clean every surface in our house. That INCLUDES our counters, cabinets, sinks, toilets, showers and even our mirrors and windows. That's right, this stuff doesn't streak!!
I don't own another cleaner. For real. And the chores are nicely shared in our house these days!! You need to get (or gift) some of this magic!!
Yesterday was one of THOSE days....I think you know the type I'm talking about. Well I needed something to just take my stress from the day down a FEW notches.
I threw Stress Away and Lavender and Bergamot together in my diffusers AROUND the whole house and you guys, they are soooo relaxing. Like, "sitting on the couch, chilling without a care in the world" kinda RELAXED. You totally don't have to use Bergamot but it's inexpensive and it really makes it worth it. Bergamot smells a-ma-zing! It’s one of my favorites!!
Chill Out - 3 drops Stress Away & 2 drops Lavender - Amplify & add 3 drops Bergamot
Here are a few other of my favorite relaxing diffuser combos. So during or after a hard day...just put these bad boys in the diffuser and kick your feet up!!
SPA - 3 drops each of Purification & Lavender
Earthy Calm - 2 drops each of Frankincense & Copaiba
Wind Down- 4 drops Peace & Calming and 3 drops Lavender
I promise you that I am almost done with pumpkin...almost. It's just that it is fall and the best time to eat all those lovely squash is now! I don't want to waste anytime and if you are near any pumpkin patches or you-pick-em farms you are going to thank me that I equipped you with so many ways to use that pumpkin!
This recipe not only uses pumpkin but it uses my favorite fall Vitality Essential Oils of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Nutmeg and Ginger. You could use Thieves Vitality too but I truly love the Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend that I shared in an earlier post. You can find that blend here or you can simply combine 1 drop each of Cinnamon Bark Vitality, Clove Vitality, Ginger Vitality and Nutmeg Vitality essential oils in a dropper bottle for this recipe. From that blend you will use just 1 drop in the recipe. Same is true if you use Thieves Vitality since it is also a blend, use just 1 drop.
This salad dressing was so easy to make and you can see right here that I mixed it right in the mason jar! I was then able to store it with the lid on in the fridge for a few more days of tasty salads! You know what else this is great for? Drizzle it on grilled or roasted chicken with fresh tarragon or thyme.
But back to this salad! My mouth is watering just looking at this image again because I know how good it was! I added pumpkin seeds, organic dried cranberries (we have cranberry bogs right here in New England too!), and prosciutto. Now for the butternut squash on the salad. It is super easy. I buy it pre-chopped from Trader Joes because I may be about healthy but also my time is usually limited so I cut corners where I can and not compromise on fresh. But if you have the time you can certainly clean and cut fresh butternut squash yourself. I threw the cubed squash in a skillet with coconut oil and sautéed it with a little bit of ground cinnamon. I love the way the coconut oil toasts the ground cinnamon so while you could certainly use your Cinnamon Bark Vitality oil here, I chose to go for the way the ground spice cooks up. I just gently sauté it until it is tender and had a few nice charred parts.
Toss some organic greens, here I chose the peppery arugula, with the seeds, cranberries and chopped prosciutto and gently toss in the squash. Don't worry if it is still warm. I thought it was lovely way to have a salad on a cool fall afternoon!
Give your pumpkin vinaigrette a good shake. I probably don't need to remind you to make sure that lid is on well! Then just drizzle it over your salad, stir and enjoy! You could certainly do a lot of things to change up this salad and I would love to hear how you made it your own in the comments!
I think that is the last pumpkin recipe you will see from me this fall perhaps. That is until I find something new that I can't let go with out sharing with you!
Enjoy and Happy Fall Y'all!
Everybody around me is getting sick. Our neighbors and the kids at school have chest colds and fevers, stomach bugs and Hand Foot and Mouth.
I want NONE of that. Zero.
So I'm sitting here with my yummy tea and supporting my immune system so it can fight that gunk off. I made up a cup of caffeine free red tea, added a teaspoon of organic honey and a drop each of Thieves and Lemon Vitality oils. It's like a warm hug in a mug on this chilly afternoon.
Do you know how to tell that it is fall? You might say it is the cool, crisp change in the air or the fact that your husband has pulled out his favorite football tailgate equipment, or maybe even in your state the leaves are starting to change. But nope. It's the fact that everyone has put out their pumpkin pie spice flavored everything! But you know what most of those pumpkin pie spice scented, flavored, fragrant things have in common? Synthetic processed chemicals. Um. No thank you. I prefer to do things more natural and that includes my pumpkin pie spice everything. We use this blend of pure essential oils in everything from our homemade room sprays to our made from scratch pumpkin pie. Do you have diffuser? Then add a few drops of this blend and not only will your house smell like a warm pumpkin pie hug but you are also going to reap the benefits from the essential oils contained in this blend. We also just posted a healthy protein shake recipe here on the blog that you could use a few drops of this blend in place of the Thieves essential oil.
Pumpkin Pie Spice essential oil blend:
20 drops Cinnamon Bark
15 drops Clove
15 drops Nutmeg
10 drops Ginger
10 drops Orange
5 drops Cardamom
Combine all oils in a 10mL glass bottle. Gently mix oils before each use. Use 4-5 drops in a diffuser for a warm fresh baked pumpkin pie aroma and also enjoy the therapeutic benefits from these Young Living oils. Use Young Living Vitality essential oils for this blend and use 1-2 drops in your favorite recipe that calls for pumpkin pie spice! Look for more of my favorite recipes this month that use this inviting, warm blend!
Happy Fall y'all!
I should call these next gazillion recipes the “101 days of Fall!” I am kidding. There will only be 99 pumpkin spice recipes. Lol. But seriously, I was so super excited to get my Young Living Essentials Rewards order this month because I added Vitality oils I need for a “pumpkin pie spice” blend! But that is a whole other thing we need to talk about!
I wanted to share with you a smoothie recipe I made this week. It was so awesome tasting! As I am typing this recipe, I am wanting it so badly! I may have to take a break and go make one! Even my boys loved this smoothie.
Did you know that pumpkin is such a good food choice for you? I didn’t know until I started looking in to it some more and was excited about what I found. Consuming one cup of cooked, canned pumpkin would provide well over 100% of your daily needs for vitamin A, 20% of the daily value for vitamin C, 10% or more for vitamin E, riboflavin, potassium, copper and manganese at least 5% for thiamin, B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, niacin, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. Not to mention it is packed with the antioxidant beta-carotene. Want to talk about preventative medicine! Look up all the things that are affected by beta-carotene and vitamin A (cancer defense, heart health, delay aging (what?!). It and the avocado or banana are also packed full of fiber and potassium! Good for heart health, fertility and eye sight! Holy cow!
The coconut oil is totally optional and while it does add more fat and calories it does have its benefits too. It can give a great boost to your metabolism in the morning which is always a good thing. Know what else it can do? Coconut oil contains so many things that your body benefit from. Here is a short list of somethings I found in my own research that can be supported by consuming coconut oil: metabolism, muscle building, appetite suppressant, promotes heart health, memory function, healthy digestion, balance hormones. So if you don't mind the extra calories you can see that there are a lot of great reasons to include it!
The Young Living Pure Protein Complete contains 5 different proteins and a full range of amino acids. Protein is a building block for most of your body so don’t skimp on that! It is also great at making you feel more full longer. Amino acids have multiple benefits for your body besides just being the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids also benefit your immune system and your nervous system!
Young Living's Thieves Vitality Essential Oil is the perfect way to add a little bit of the warm, spicy flavor that we all love in pumpkin pie. It is a special blend that contains Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary essential oils that help support overall wellness and a healthy immune system. Perfect for this season when we could use some strong immune systems!
Okay so go make this like now! See just how easy it is to make by checking out our recipe videos here!
PUMPKIN PIE SMOOTHIE
3/4 cup pumpkin purée
1/4 of a ripe avocado or 1/2 banana
1/2-1 cup of cashew, coconut or almond milk
1 tsp raw honey or organic maple syrup
1 TBS coconut oil (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon or 1 drop of Cinnamon Vitality Essential Oil
1 -2 drops Thieves Vitality Essential Oil (option 1-2 drops "pumpkin pie spice" blend)
1-2 scoops Young Living Pure Protein Complete Vanilla Spice
Add pumpkin, avocado, milk, oil, cinnamon and honey to blender and mix completely. Use more or less milk to suit your consistency tastes. Stir in essential oil. I add my protein powder at the end because I find if I add it sooner and mix to much it becomes really whipped up and fluffy and I don’t like fluffy smoothies. Pour into glass and enjoy!
Pumpkin just screams fall but I am curious what is your favorite fall treat?
Note: We would never recommend that you take internally any essential oil that is not specified as safe for consumption or ingestion.
